Corbridge/Corstopitum

Half a mile north west of Corbridge is the excavated site of the Roman fort of Corstopitum which was built before Hadrian's Wall. It later became an important town and supply depot for the Wall. It is open daily. A 14th century pele tower in Corbridge now houses a Tourist Information Centre.
