This is the best preserved Roman fort and troop-base on Hadrian's Wall. The fascinating remains include the only example of a Roman hospital in Britain. It is set beside one of the best and most scenic stretches of the Wall. Housesteads is open all year, English Heritage standard opening times, and is reached from a car park on the B6318 road.
