Aydon Castle

Built as a manor house at the end of the 13th century, fortifications were soon added because of the threat of attack from the Scots. These fears were fully justified as the Castle fell into Scots hands in 1315 when it was pillaged and burned. It was converted to a farmhouse in the 17th century. It is open from Easter to September, English Heritage standard opening times, and is located 1 mile North East of Corbridge on a minor road off the B6321.
