Brinkburn Priory

This is one of the loveliest spots in Northumberland-enchanting and magical, with foxgloves, woodruff, figwort and other wild flowers nearby. On the walk from the carpark down the sloping valley of the River Coquet you will pass some gnarled and ancient trees which frame the finest views of the river and Brinkburn Priory. Surrounded by rhododendrons on a bend in the river, this is Northumberland's finest example of early Gothic architecture. We are fortunate to see a complete building rather than the usual ruins of monastic churches. Preserved at the time of the Dissolution through use as a parish church, the priory church was completely restored in the 19th century. Brinkburn Priory is open from April to September from 10am-6pm.
